The Appleton le Moors Group was formed in 2006 and supported by a Grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund.
The Group’s objective is to create a History Archive readily accessible to all and also have regular formal and informal meetings to stimulate interest in the history of the Appleton-le-Moors and its people.
We are willing to look up information for individuals researching their Family History.

Community and domestic history are of particular interest, many of the records such as Census Records, Church Registers, School Log Book and some Diaries are searchable.
A large collection of photographs and documents have been assembled covering the whole of the 2oth Century and earlier.
Appleton le Moors may be in area a small parish but is large in history terms being planned under the auspices of St Mary’s Abby York around the 12th Century as a single street township with east and west back lanes. From the medieval period until the present day it has also been part of The Manor of Spaunton.

The patrons of the village in the Victorian era were The Shepherd family. They left the village with four significant building. The Hall dating from 1854/55 now a private residence but in the past a School, a Hotel and a Quaker Rest Home. The Church, designed by Mr John Loughborough Pearson who was also responsible for Truro Cathedral was consecrated 1n 1865. To the north of the Church is what was originally, when built in 1855 a chapel, school and school master house. This was later to become the Vicarage but now has been converted to two houses. Finally in 1867 a school with attached school masters house was built at the southern end of the village this closed in 1969 and is now the Village Hall.
