The Ryedale Family History Group was formed in 2005 to meet the needs of Family Historians in an area not covered by other such groups and societies. By coming together, members have been able to collect together data such as Parish Registers and Memorial Inscriptions and make them available through the modern format of CD-Rom. Other historical documents such as Parish Magazines and School Logbooks have been scanned and likewise published.
The Group also holds a database of photographs of significant buildings such as Parish Churches in its area and undertakes to photograph any location to send to anywhere throughout the world. Local books of historical interest, such as “Reminiscences of Helmsley”, written over 100 years ago, have also been re-published.
Meetings are held every month at various locations throughout Ryedale, at Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Pickering, Malton and Hovingham. These are on the third Wednesday in the month, the speaker being advertised on the Group’s website and in the local Press. Guests are always welcome and refreshments served.
A Research Room has been established in the Village Hall at Hovingham, where every Thursday, Members and members of the public can research their Family History with expert help to hand. The Group has a range of facilities, enabling access to be made to the internet, copying, scanning and ordering certificates.

Membership is £12 per annum, families £15 which includes the quarterly magazine, “Ryedale Roots” and free access to the Research Room.
