The Museum will be closed all day on Sunday 19th August due to unavoidable volunteer shortages in operating cover. We are very sorry we will be closed that day and hope that you will visit us on another occasion. We thank our visitors for their understanding.

Date Your Family Portraits – Workshops – Friday 14 September & Friday 16 November – 2.00 – 4.00 pm.

Do you want to know more about dating those lovely old Victorian portraits?

Dating your photographs can help you to decide who they are of.

We can see that the subject is (say) a lady of about 25 and that the photograph was taken in (say) York but WHEN was it taken. The date is the missing link.

There are many clues in the photograph itself as well as on the photographic mount.

Come along, see lots of examples of photographs, discover the clues available, have some fun and enjoy some simple workshop exercises. Also find out where to look for further information on the internet and in various publications.

Please bring along any interesting Victorian photographs that you want to date.

The sessions will last for approximately 2 hours with a short break with refreshments in the middle.

Limited to 12 places per workshop – cost of £10.00 per person, proceeds to Beck Isle Museum.

To book a place please contact Beck Isle Museum – advanced payment required.

The workshops will be run by Ron Cosens who has the largest collection of Victorian UK carte de visite and cabinet card photographs in the world and has been collecting and researching them for over 25 years.
